10/11 What To Do What To Do

Morning of NYE
E-tickets? Check!
Overnight bag? Check!
Mood to party? Double check!!
This is what the morning of NYE sounds like when you’re planning on ditching The Hague and jet of to Barcelona.

We decided to skip town because, every year the same routine al over again,  was getting old. Meaning, friends who have no clue what so ever they're going to do that one special celebratory night of the year, eating too much "oliebollen" as we call those round doughy things and getting drunk waiting for a cab that’s not gonna show up and ducking for cover as a cracker almost hits you in the face.

Don’t think so!

Just the thought of one more NYE like mentioned earlier made my head hurt.
I went online to check out this swank hotel named W, right on the beach in the harbour of Barcelona. Good thing to be connected across the border because this was a deal we couldn’t pass up.

It all appeared too good to be true. A Cool Corner Suite with an adjacent Marvelous Suite for two nights. We'll, everything turned out even better than we could hope for.
A fantastic view from three angles, the harbour and the city center, the ocean and the beach, combine that with some Rose Champagne and it's all good!

Arrival
Arriving at the W was a treat already because of the architectural beauty of it. The rooms we’re also fantastic, a balanced mixture of comfort, design and practicality all stirred together with a bit of sexiness. This was going to be a fabulous 2 day stay.

In our ninth flour suites we didn’t waste any time and start poppin’ bottles like there was no tomorrow.
First bottles open…….. Time for room service cause when in Spain you got to have Tapas.
Quick room service it was in deed, after placing our order it arrived in 15 minutes. To think that the entire hotel was fully booked for NYE, that was very, very quick!

 NYE
After the start of our two day adventure we had to get ready for a night filled with Champagne, fireworks, VIP treatments in the clubs and allot of dancing!!!!
The shower in the Suite was also one of several things I really wanted to steal and stick in my carryon because that showerhead was almost as big as the cabin itself. No seriously 2x2, my god, I could not get out of there. But fabulousness awaits and you don’t get pretty just by showering, haha!
Everybody is dressed and ready to have dinner. Reservations were made in restaurant Grande Fock who were serving us a 30’s style Gangster meets Flapper theme, Smoking Mandatory!
Dinner was of course very nice, but tic toc tic toc 11 o’clock on the dot. Gotta start moving back to the hotel for the 12 o’clock fireworks out on the poolside terrace!

Bang Time
Good to know is that Barcelona is a beautiful city which is filled with beautiful people from all over the world. From Argentina to Sweden, England to Australia and of course Holland.
Didn’t take very long to spot them and it didn’t take long for them to spot me.
After my participation in a Dutch television show it is something I’ve started getting used to when people recognize me because of that in my hometown but, when in another country, it starts getting weird.
Two girls pointing and whispering (I thought it was because of my crystallized pants) caught my attention, but it was the writer Kluun ( Komt Een Vrouw Bij De Dokter) who stepped up and said; ’hey aren’t you that guy?’.
So after mixing our groups together we went outside and let me tell you, the view of the entire coastline of Barcelona shooting fireworks and everyone traditionally feeding each other grapes, is already enough to be grateful for. The energy, the excitement and the joy made it worth to skip The Hague.

Clubbing
The CDLC (Carpe Diem Lounge Club) was our destination for the night, along with Club Opium and Club 13. The club was packed, the music was fantastic and the juice was flowing.
Got in at one and left at eight.
That’s all you need to know ;-) hahahahaha.

Day 2
Waking up in those beds with 18 degrees and sun and that view, makes you want to stay in the room instead of getting out and see Barcelona.
That’s exactly what we did, accompanied with some delicious bits, bites and of course champagne.
Time to really wake up now and get ready for a new night. We planned to take it easy.
So after dinner on the boardwalk we went back to the hotel and took the elevator upstairs to the 26th floor to the Eclipse Bar.
A gorgeous designer bar with an even greater 360 view over the city. The night started slowly, a bit of lounge/chill music and people recovering from the previous night. The clock struck twelve and for us that meant Happy New Years Day!!!!
Our little group managed to stir up things in the bar and within fifteen minutes everybody was dancing and the DJ was our best friend (also Dutch).
Trying to close the bar at five was going to be a problem because nobody was planning on leaving, so it was another 7 or 8 o’clock when they pulled the plug.
Tired but ready for the soft and comfy beds, we returned to the 9th and fell a sleep in a snap.

Departure
Another sunny morning but this time less fun because that’s when it hit us, we’re leaving!
After checking out we took a walk on the boardwalk enjoying the sun. The one thing we all had our mind on was food. Luckily there was a Mickey D on our way to the airport. After all that gourmet cuisine, nothing will ever beat a quarter pounder with a chocolate milkshake!

So,
Belly’s stuffed? Check.
Carryons? Check.
Memories? YESSS
Ready to leave? NOOO

Next year? Paris, Vegas, London or even Antwerp, moral of the story is…… anywhere but here!
